Soft Skill

by indon on May.03, 2009, under office

TELL me, what’s the critical factor that will significantly impact the job excellence an employee can deliver.

Technical skill ?
Intelligence ?
Academical background ?

Yes, but that’s not the most important factor.
softskill
In the office, there are some other skills that we need to have in order to allow us deliver superior job performance.

More than technical skill, intelligence or academic training, it is our attitude towards our job, our work ethos, our interpersonal skill that will have more impact to the job result. Someone with positive thinking, a person that’s not easy to give up, an employee that always ready to face a new challenge, glad to see transformation, a person with good communication skill, self control, good leadership capability will at the end of the day deliver a better result comparing to someone that’s excellent in technical skill only. Those kind of skills are categorized as ’soft skill’.

Soft skill is important. It can make a difference. Many times it’s even become the key success factor.

Knowing this, let’s develop ourselves to be someone that’s occupied with excellent soft skill on top of the technical skill and academic training – and see what the impact to the job performance will be. (*)

Do the best… Now!

by indon on Apr.29, 2009, under office

LET’S talk about work. About an assignment.

This is about “think big start small”. This is about how giving our best effort to any “insignificant” assignment can open a bigger opportunity.
do the best
This is about the habit to always deliver the best performance we can deliver, despite what kind of job or project we are working for.

We may dream of being assigned for a big project, we may plan to deliver our best performance after we are promoted later in the future. But, realistically, a big project, a promotion, and/or the good opportunity will only be given to someone that has a reputaion as a person that consistently delivers good performance. Someone whose track record is impressive.

So we don’t need to wait for a bigger opportunity, a better job or another project to come to show that we can do the job well. Start it now. Whatever assignment that we currently have in our “to do” list, do it well. Give the best effort in completing the task.

And, start now, not tomorrow. (*)

GLOBALIZATION. Many, if not all of us have been very familiar to that word.
The world is flat. Many of us have heard that term as well.
globalization
Both globalization and the term “the world is flat” is related to the way people work now. Using the technology and software advance, the people worldwide are now work together very closely.

Nowadays, to complete a circle of one certain task, there may several people from different countries have their involvement to the job. For example, the negotiation between one company with their vendor is done in one country, while the purchase order is prepared and printed by an employee in another country.

Another example is , the activity of accounting unit for a multinational company is centralized in one country, while the company itself has their operation and branch office in several countries. (continue reading…)

NOWADAYS, the term of “work life balance” has been quite popular and often being used in many discussion.

Previously, when the only known way of working was the ‘traditional way’, many times the work put in an opposite side of personal life of the employee while in the last several years many research and study show that if the company or the leader treat the personal life as complementary instead of competing ones with the work performance, employees respond with greater effort and loyalty.

With the increasing number of women in the workforce, the attention to work life balance is increasing.

The basic thinking of work life balance is about flexibility on how, when and where an employee work. With this kind of flexibility, the employee can manage both the work performance and personal life well. (continue reading…)
